SHEEP  |  BEEF  |   PRODUCE

Green Valley Agriculture is a chemical free mixed farm. We raise Brangus beef cattle, Wiltipoll sheep, and are growers of seasonal fruits and vegetables, specialising in finger limes and ginger. Green Valley is based in the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland region of Beerwah.

WILTIPOLL SHEEP

The Wiltipoll is so named because it is a ‘poll’ variety of the Wiltshire horn sheep. A ‘polled’ variety, be it sheep, goat or cattle, is one that doesn’t grow horns. Hence, ‘Wiltipoll’. Wilthshire Horn are a British breed. The polled variety of the Wiltshire Horn was developed in Australia. Wiltipoll are a full shedding sheep with premium flavoured lean meat. We currently are breeding a small flock of Wiltipoll Sheep for meat purposes. Lambing in 2015 is due to begin in June. Last years lambing produced excellent quality stock.

Our Wiltipolls are very docile. Rams are usually the most dominant amongst sheep breeds, however the absence of horn also makes the Wiltipoll ram a little less aggressive. Our sheep will feed out of your hands and don’t require dogs for herding in most cases. Compared with other sheep, the Wiltipoll is a prolific breeder. Ewes will only breed once a year, but unlike many other sheep breeds, twins, triplets and even quadruplets are not uncommon.

AUSTRALIAN BRANGUS

The Brangus breed has been developed as a stabilised breed in Australia since early 1950’s. Brangus are designed to retain the strengths of the parent breeds, the Brahman and Angus. Brangus are allowed a variable Bos Indicus content which makes them capable of handling any environment.

Brangus excels in the profitable traits of fertility, easy calving, maternal, heat and parasite tolerance and longevity. These abilities allow Brangus to meet varying production specifications allowing Brangus breeder’s valuable marketing options. Brangus are naturally polled, and either black or red in colour. Brangus consistently top cattle markets and perform strongly in carcass competitions, steer trials, feedlots and breeding paddocks across Australia.

Our Brangus are pasture fed and treated to sustainably grown forage fodder regularly. We have both Red and Black Brangus and they all have excellent temperaments.

GREEN VALLEY GINGER

Canton Ginger
Canton ginger is a tropical Asian ginger variety, widely cultivated for its pungent aroma and flavour. Following harvest, our Canton ginger is washed, trimmed and packed in 5 kilogram boxes and sent to national markets. Canton ginger produces a hot, fragrant kitchen spice and is often used as a quintessential ingredient of Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and many South Asian cuisines for flavoring dishes such as seafood or goat meat and vegetarian cuisine. Ginger also acts as a useful food preservative.

Queensland Ginger
“Queensland” ginger is the most common variety of ginger used for processing. Following harvest, raw ginger for processing is washed and freighted to the processor. Common post-harvest processes include juicing, powdered ginger and as a flavoring for recipes such as gingerbread, cookies, crackers and cakes, ginger ale, and ginger beer.
